The Storm That Changed Everything: Hurricane Melissa

Sharing Is Caring 🥺

What was your favorite subject in school?

My favorite subject has always been Biology. There’s something about studying life — how it grows, survives, and adapts — that has always fascinated me. Maybe that’s why I’m holding on so tightly to hope right now… because even nature teaches us that after every storm, life finds a way to rise again.

From Monday, October 27, 2025, to Wednesday, October 29, 2025, Jamaica faced the unimaginable as Hurricane Melissa tore through our island with a force that words can barely capture. Homes were flooded, roofs ripped away, trees uprooted, and entire communities left in total darkness — including mine. I’m writing this right now without light or electricity the sound of rain ⛈️ still echoing in the night. It’s just me, my phone, and a small spark of hope that things will get better.

The destruction is heartbreaking — families lost everything, streets turned into rivers, and the power lines that once lit our nights now hang twisted and broken. Yet, in the middle of all this chaos, I see strength. Jamaicans 🇯🇲 helping each other, sharing food, charging phones where they can, comforting strangers. That’s the beauty of us  no matter how strong the storm, our spirit never breaks. Check out my other blog post.

If you want to see for yourself what Hurricane Melissa has done, just search “Hurricane Melissa 🌀 in Jamaica” on social media. The videos and photos say more than I ever could.

  7. I’m truly sorry to read what you’ve been through with Hurricane Melissa. The way it struck Jamaica with such force and so little early warning is heartbreaking. It didn’t just damage trees and buildings, it shook entire lives, and I sincerely hope no more lives were lost in the aftermath.

For me, disasters like this remind us of a difficult truth: we build our land into a peaceful home, but nature can still reclaim what belongs to it. Even so, we don’t stay down. We rise again, rebuild, and continue the circle of life with new strength and new hope.

Stay safe, and thank you for sharing your experience. Your resilience shines through your words.

  8. Jamaica is right in the path of so many of these hurricanes. It’s a lovely place to visit, but I could never live there. Of course, people say the same thing about where we live, which is prone to earthquakes.

    • That’s a great point, Pete. The threat of hurricanes is a constant reality here, just like the earthquake risk where you are. Thanks for reading and leaving a comment!
